Nadda dumb question..

Is there a glossary of terms posted here? If not, link to glossary regarding graphics terms? If I don't know what it is or does...I probably won't know how to use it. huh.gif

Thx.
Halibel
good question, we don't have a glossary of terms currently, but we do have a pic of the many tools that photoshop comes with posted in the tutorials section.

http://lucidgfx.ipbfree.com/index.php?showtopic=19

if you're curious about certain terms you can ask me and ill do my best to answer your question.

Some common terms you'll hear tossed around here

http://lucidgfx.ipbfree.com/index.php?showtopic=181

in additon to these terms you'll probably hear about

LR-Learning Rights-these files are used to help you learn and must be used in that way only.
WR-Wearing Rights-you can put the tag in your sig, but you must give credit to the maker.
FR-Free Rights-you can do whatever you want with it.

As far as photoshop terms, there's so many it's hard for me to go into depth without some direction from you so give me a reply back and ill be happy to answer anymore questions.

http://www.photoshopgurus.com/tutorials/t001.html also, check this guy out. he's great and he's got excellent beginner tutorials.

vector masks are quite helpful. pl0x watch the following tutorial to learn more emo-emo-amon.gif

http://www.tutorio.com/tutorial/vector-mask

you basically can cover up teh background of the image you're cutting without losing the actual background and replace it w/ something else.

Why that link broken? o.o

>_> dunno, i just clicked it and it worked.

so what s the deal with renders can I just use them or do I have to ask?
Raoul Duke
@random: depends on if the renderer says to or not. Most don't care but some are fucking nazis.

@hali: how is that any different from rendering?
random
what about the renders in Lucid photo bucket, there are some cool renders there uploaded by savage and yuki, do we have to ask permision to use those?
The Digital Jester
Nah just take any renders you see.

I'm a renderer my self so I know.

Just take them. They're there for public use, and we put our Tag's on each render we make so it's all good.

Just jack it and use it.

And if someone is a Nazi about it, fuck em. They've posted it on
the net so what do they expect lol?

I don't want email's from every single person who wants to use my render asking permission to use it lol.
Halibel
thats basically what i was saying in the shoutbox yesterday, people who render don't have rights to the pictures so they really can't say whether its free use or whether it isnt. so steer clear of dA is really all I can tell you. If it's someone that the person designed themselves then i understand not distributing, but i dont see why it wouldnt be ok otherwise.

duke, it's really not that different, it just masks the background instead of deleting it i believe emo-emo-amon.gif

[assuming you're using windows]
open a window like "my pictures" then type "C:\WINDOWS\Fonts" into the address bar. Copy and paste or drag and drop them into the fonts window and there you go.

BTW, edit posts don't double up.

ah, Thanks!
The Sex!
this is a non-related GFX question... how do you compress a file and what program do you use? i've tried winrar and power archiver but the resulting archive's size is the same as the original file..
Raoul Duke
Use winzip.

http://www.winzip.com/index.htm
The Sex!
same problem.. i used maximum compression and still did nothing..
Raoul Duke
What are you trying to compress?
The Sex!
png's.. lots of them..
Raoul Duke
hmm. I'm not sure but PNG's might not be compressable. Although there is a limit to compression anyways. That limit changes from file type to file type.
Ness
Also to add to Raoul Duke's post about installing fonts, to install the fonts and that you have Windows Vista:
Open the zip/rar file.
Drag and drop the font file onto the desktop.
Then right click on the font file and click on "Install".
You are done!

^zomg are you serious?! I was doing it this other long and more complicated way.... *feels like a n00b and runs to hide in shame* lol
